Indie Mart kicked off in 2007 as a design fair in my back yard in the Mission. I wanted to showcase handmade and cool folks making things. After years of hearing people saying, "I can make that", in 2009, I was inspired to start Workshop SF DIY school with my business parter, DK. We teach classes and show you how to make. Indie Mart works in tandem with Workshop. It is an approachable design fair where you can shop locally made gods, make stuff and learn about the process in those goods. We always have things to do, a mix of price points and vendors who make because they love it. Much like our classes, we offer a variety of makers in catagories that include wood & metal, printmaking & art, fiber arts & sewing, home, design & plants.
We pride ourselves in working with great makers and artists. We often bring in up and coming creatives who can't always afford the bigger shows. Making should be inspiring and since we run a DIY school, we also welcome students just breaking into starting their own businesses. We keep our booth fees affordable and accessible for vendors. Workshop is set up with various hands on making/ activities as well so you can get your hands a little dirty, while getting inspired.
Drink Beer Make Stuff is Workshop's motto and why we partner with Anchor Brewing on events. Having made handcrafted beer in San Francisco since 1896, Anchor represents craftsmanship in brewing, a local tradition and beloved icon. We think shopping is more fun when you can grab a beer, some grub and make stuff too. Anchor Public Taps is a beer bar and event space located at 495 De Haro Street, just across the street from Anchor’s iconic brewery in the Potrero Hill neighborhood of San Francisco.
